Tourism in the USA is a very lucrative industry. Millions of foreign and domestic tourists visit the country every year.

And no wonder, because there is so much to see here: beautiful landscapes, historical sites, modern buildings and developed entertainment (restaurants, casinos, amusement parks).

Each state has its own unique attractions. Before planning your trip to America, you may wish to explore local attractions in order to choose the state you’ll be most interested in.

1) New York

New York is one of the biggest cities in the USA! Founded in 1664, the metropolis has been growing ever since, with skyscrapers being actively built here.

Central Park is one of the largest and most popular places in the world, dating back to the 19th century! It is about 4 kilometres long, 800 metres wide and 3.41 square kilometres. The park has several artificial lakes, two ice rinks, wilderness areas where sports competitions take place and even a zoo! Of course, not to forget the Statue of Liberty, a sculpture created in the 19th century! It’s 107 meters high!

The city is also famous among foreigners for its cinematography. Popular TV series as well as legendary films were shot in New York:

– Breakfast at Tiffany’s;

– “A Rainy Day in New York”;

– The Devil Wears Prada;

– “Brooklyn.”

– What Women Want;

– “Home Alone 2”.

2) Miami

It’s a famous resort city on the Florida peninsula with perpetual summer and great beaches.

Visitors will be able to relax alone with nature by visiting:

– The Tropical Zoo, one of the largest zoos in Florida with over 3,000 animals in 2,995 km². The zoo is divided into four zones: Asia, Africa, the Amazon and Australia. The best month to visit because of the climatic conditions is May.

– Jungle Island is home to exclusive animals. Tours include spectacular shows, beautiful waterfalls and landscapes.

The Miami Aquarium opened in 1955. Thousands of people come every year to watch the mammal performances. The “oldest star” is the orca Lolita, who has been performing since 1970.

Of course, Miami’s calling card is the ocean. Aside from regular swimming, water sports like surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing are popular.

A wide choice of hotels allows you to book a room according to your income: from budget options to VIP suites.

3) Los Angeles

Los Angeles encompasses a large land and ocean area, so it simply can’t go unnoticed.

The local pride is the “HOLLYWOOD” monument, large white letters created in 1932. The architecture was due to be dismantled in a year and a half, but has been a joy to behold for centuries. Hollywood, the district of Los Angeles, is known as the symbolic capital of cinema. Best-selling films are shot in the pavilions and given awards at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts, and there is also a home on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The resort is also famous for its busy nightlife: parties, restaurants and nightclubs. However, there’s plenty to do during the daytime too:

– Los Angeles County Museum of Art;

– the Hollywood Bowl architecture;

– the Santa Monica Pier;

– the Grand Central Market, etc.

4) Las Vegas

Over 50 million tourists from all over the world visit the resort city every year! Many people associate Las Vegas with entertainment, and it is, because much of the city’s revenue comes from the entertainment industry:

– 80+ casinos with arcade machines;

– thousands of gaming pavilions;

– comfortable hotels for guests.

The first gambling establishments began to be built in the 1930s when the local authorities realised that gambling could bring in a legal income. So year after year, other clubs and complexes sprang up. Las Vegas Casino, Casino Flamingo, Marina Hotel & Casino were the first casinos and complexes where visitors relaxed and bet. Infrastructure construction peaked in the 1960s and 1970s and continues to this day. There are exciting events every day, so tourists won’t get bored!

The amazing thing is that the entertainment centre was literally built on a desert site!

5) Chicago

With a population of over 10 million people, this city is the third most populous in the United States. Many people associate Chicago with skyscrapers and gangsters, a fact that’s a credit to the film industry.

Some viewers recognise the streets and neighbourhoods of the metropolis from legendary films: “Home Alone”, “The Dark Knight (2008)”, “Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon”, “The Chicago Gang” and others.

The 108-storey Willis Tower is one of the most prominent buildings in the city. The city is home to the Grant Park complex, located on the shores of Lake Michigan. It covers an area of 1.29 square kilometres. There are quite a few landmarks in the area:

– Millennium Park;

– Buckingham Fountain, one of the largest in the world;

– Chicago Institute of Arts.

You may also visit Chicago:

– Museum of Science and Industry;

– Lincoln Park Zoo;;

– John Shedd Aquarium.

In addition, there are well-developed beaches on the shores of Lake Michigan.

The price of a vacation is more affordable than in other places – another incentive to come here.

6) San Francisco

The history of the metropolis goes back to 1776.

Located on the northern coast of the United States, it is a tourist destination with a Mediterranean climate.

It was famous for its Chinatown, which was frequented by Hollywood stars as far back as the middle of the last century. Chinese refugees who rebuilt their homes themselves created a unique neighbourhood. There are museums and cultural centres too. A popular street is Lombard Street, a 180-metre walkway with a steep hill.

There are quite a few tourist trams running around the city, which you can hop on to get a guided sightseeing tour. Tourists love to take pictures against the backdrop of the area. Fans of beautiful architecture should stop by Grace Cathedral, which is Gothic in style and looks like Notre Dame.

Visitors will immediately be able to see the bronze doors of the architecture called ‘Gates of Paradise’. The entrance is accessible to people of all faiths. Come and see the wonderful sights of the United States!

Bitcoin affects the ecology of the Earth

In just a couple of years, cryptocurrencies have finally turned from something unusual into a completely ordinary thing. As economists, IT specialists and ordinary citizens begin to comprehend the value that this digital currency provides, it seems inevitable that we are witnessing the beginning of the end for traditional currencies.

Bitcoin is created with a lot of electricity and computing power. There are a lot of branches of modern life that require computer hardware, but it’s not necessary to mine cryptocurrencies.

Some people are now raising concerns about the environmental impact of mining cryptocurrencies, but over time it’s likely that there needs to be a lot more conversation surrounding this topic. Environmental protection is becoming more important in the global community, which is why many companies are focusing on renewable, so-called green energy sources. In a world where many countries are actively fighting to reduce carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere, working on the development of renewable, so-called green energy is really on the agenda.

Mining cryptocurrencies requires a huge amount of electricity. It’s more than many countries consume in a day.

Bitcoin has been growing in popularity over the last few years and it has even reached several countries. It is also safe to say that it requires more electricity to maintain than other cryptocurrencies. So, already in 2019, bitcoin mining and ensuring the performance of this network exceeded the annual energy consumption of Switzerland in terms of volume. It’s proven to be an effective means for businesses seeking financial security investments.

The popularity of Bitcoin has increased many times over in the past few years, and it is clear that there are many benefits to this trend. The prediction about the future of bitcoin mining in 2020 is astonishing. For a single bitcoin transaction, as much power is needed as many countries like Argentina or the United Arab Emirates use in an entire year.

The energy costs for mining and maintaining a single bitcoin are already high and will continue to be. It is worth noting that the energy consumption of a country like Indonesia, which has a population density of over 200 people per square kilometer, would only take up 1% of the total electricity consumption in Germany at its current rate.

When experts from Cambridge gave everyday examples, they found that the annual consumption of electricity only by bitcoin could ensure the operation of electric kettles throughout Europe over the course of 4.1 years. The university in Cambridge would have 704 years’ worth of electricity supply.

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, made a big decision to accept Bitcoin as a payment option on his company website. This was in 2021, but it was extremely successful and led to more organizations accepting Bitcoin. Monetary transactions using this new payment method were only available to US citizens. Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, also noted that Tesla wouldn’t convert cryptocurrency into fiat money.

Elon Musk did announce that Tesla would no longer accept Bitcoins, but they will instead use sustainable energy. They have said that they have bigger plans in 2020 and 2021, which is why they are suspending the sale of Bitcoin cars.

Mining cryptocurrencies is a hard business and can lead to a significant financial loss in the event of not having enough processing power. Today, many companies and individuals are wondering what type of energy their mining operations use and whether or not it complies with today’s regulations.

A lot of crypto-farms are concentrated in Scandinavia and in Russia. This is because the low air temperatures cause sites to be less expensive. At the same time, some cryptocurrencies might be produced using renewable energy sources, which means that they don’t leave behind a carbon footprint.

Estimates of exactly what kind of energy is used to generate bitcoin differ significantly and vary greatly.

There are still various concerns about cryptocurrencies and their effect on the ecology of the planet. Some argue that they could be a positive thing, while others believe they could have harmful effects in terms of respect for nature.

While some people might believe that cryptocurrencies are a bubble, many others have recognized their value and encouraged users to invest in them. It really seems like your relationship with the two currencies will depend on how you personally feel towards them.

Travelling is our passion. People travel for fun, to have a rest, to enjoy the sun, and to explore other countries. Well, but have you ever traveled for… a date? If this idea sounds intriguing, we prepared a guide to interracial dating while traveling. See below for more details.

First, is interracial dating popular?

Does it make sense to travel for interracial dating? Though interracial couples are not yet dominating, we can see a big increase in the number of interracial couples worldwide. However, not every country and city will welcome you as an interracial couple. And it is not only about a White and a Black Person, it is also about a Black and an Asian couple, regardless of the genders of the partners. The problem comes both from the legal and cultural aspects of society. Quite often people are not open to and ready to accept such relationships.

If we take the US stats, the part of interracial marriages in all new marriages registered has grown from 3% in 1967 to 19% in 2019. And the public approval of interracial marriage has also risen from around 5% to 94% over the last 50 years.

What are the best places for interracial dating?

The world is very diverse when it comes to accepting interracial dating. Take for example Brazil, where interracial marriages are considered a norm. Other good interracial dating locations should include Australia, the UK, the US, and Canada. Let’s take look at them one by one.

Brazil

Interracial marriages are nothing new there, as for generations those people have seen couples of Black, Asian, Middle Eastern, White, and Caucasian. Some people say that the trend started as an attempt to save Black people from slavery and grant them equal rights through intermarriage. Skin color doesn’t matter in Brazil as long as you can fit in the culture and adopt the values that people have. That’s why Brazil can be the number one place for interracial dating. You will never be condemned there, it is considered a norm.

Where to travel in Brazil? If you choose Brazil as your destination, go to Rio de Janeiro. Its unique atmosphere will impress you. Take a look at the famous Christ statue on the top of the mountain. Visit the famous Carnaval and enjoy the sunny beaches. Among other cool locations in Brazil, you can find Sugar Loaf, Iguaçu Falls, Salvador’s Pelourinho, and more.

Australia

Is Australia good for interracial dating? The answer is Yes… almost. The thing is Australians are not publicly against interracial relationships, but this concept is still quite new for them. However, if you look at Australians themselves, about 30% of families are composed of mixed races. In general, it looks like people don’t care about other marriages, be those interracial or not. If you travel to Australia, visit a green Canberra and nearby nature reserves. The Gold Coast can be an ideal place to date and meet someone, while numerous national parks (Daintree Rainforest, Karijini, and the Pinnacles) can become nice and non-trivial places for dating.

United States

In the US the topic of interracial dating is widely discussed and moved forward by social organizations and groups, which allows us to forecast a tremendous growth of interracial marriages in the future. That said, people are quite open to interracial dating here. Only 10% of the population says that they wouldn’t date people of another race, which gives you quite a lot of like-minded and open people in the end (90%). If we take a look at particular states, there are leaders in acceptance and so to say cities to avoid. Traveling as an interracial couple, try to stay away from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Antonio. You can feel the negativity towards your couple and even hear bad stuff and face physical aggression. Especially, such cities as Boston, Tucson, and Mississippi will disappoint you a lot.

Fortunately, there are way more good areas than bad ones. Give a try Honolulu, San Diego, New York, Seattle, Denver, Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, and Montclair. Those cities are good for both interracial dating and marriage.

What to check there?

Well, Honolulu is a perfect place for dating. You can have romantic walks along the Waikiki beach, have fun in the water sports center, or go on a sunset cruise. San Diego’s Balboa Park is already a nice place for a date, but you can also go to Coronado beach, check out the Zoo and the Safari park, or invite your partner to the old town night tour. New York is the best city for dating. You can go on a jazz cruise, try whiskey tasting, go to an escape room, have fun axe throwing, and dine on a rooftop. Whatever you imagine as a bold date idea, you will get in New York.

What do think about traveling for interracial dating? Which places and cities would you recommend?

Last time, we were discussing the best places for traveling if you are an interracial couple or are interested in such dating. If you missed our previous post, you should definitely check it – there were so many interesting things inside. Today, it’s enough with dating. We are going to explore the best places for a honeymoon. Fasten your seatbelts, the plane is taking off.

#1. Bora Bora

Bora Bora is a dream place for a rest with your bae. The scenery is just an ideal image from your dreams: white sand, transparent waters of the sea, sunny beaches, palms, and a real volcano! The lagoons and beaches are ideal for sunbathing and sailing. You can also dive and do some snorkeling and then have a rest in a fancy bungalow just near the water. Bora Bora is quite expensive. However, your honeymoon also happens once in your life, so it is worth it.

#2. Kauai

One of the Hawaiian islands, Kauai can suit different couples and thus is an ideal choice. You can relax on an exquisite resort or a private beach (say, the marvelous Haena Beach Park). If you are more about active vacation, go hiking in the surrounding of the Napali Coast, travel around the Waimea Canyon, or take a boat or a kayak and go to the Wailua River to enjoy a river trip. To have even more life memories, go on a helicopter and enjoy the picturesque views from above.

#3. Hawaii

Hawaii is also a perfect destination for those who are not sure whether they like a more relaxing vacation or activities. The island offers both sunny and peaceful beaches and challenging hiking to waterfalls and active volcanoes at the National Park. You can also go surfing and play golf or just have sightseeing walks here and there taking awesome pictures. The food will surprise you with the abundance of fresh fruit and fish (sashimi).

#4. Santorini

This Greek island is noted for its incredible beauty, white buildings with blue roofs, and blue sparking sea that is visible in the distance. The sunsets here are jaw-dropping, all in pink, orange, and bright yellow colors. The architecture of Santorini is a bit specific. Many restaurants and boutiques are built on cliff sides, so you can easily appear on the roof of the building without even knowing it. Walking along the lovely narrow streets, you will fall in love with this place. And of course, the tasty Greek food will only strengthen this love.

#5. Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is a coastal region of Italy situated near the Ligurian Sea. This area has many beaches ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The cliffs will be a gift for hikers who like to climb and enjoy the views from above. The hiking trails will lead you to the five villages that constitute the territory of the National Park. We would recommend traveling in the area in autumn when the temperature is still warm, but most tourists leave the place and it gets less crowded here.

#6. Bali

Bali will be a pleasant surprise for all newlyweds. You can go to rainforests and see monkeys and elephants, spend time on peaceful beaches, and watch beautiful green rice fields while taking a stroll or a ride. There are several places to see if you are interested in the spiritual life of Bali. Take a look at Ubud, the heart of Bali culture, and visit Uluwatu Temple. Kuta, which is a local tourist area with all corresponding vibes, restaurants, shops, and tourists, will bring you the joyful atmosphere most people are used to while on vacation.

#7. Kyoto, Japan

If you plan your honeymoon for spring, go to Kyoto and enjoy the blossoming of Sakura. A romantic stroll along the Philosopher’s Path will let you appear in the center of this beauty. In all, Kyoto is saturated with the smell of history. You can see ancient temples and shrines getting to know a bit more about its 1000-year-old culture. Relaxing walking in Zen rock gardens and bamboo forests will be a perfect way to spend a day. One more place to see is the Nijo Castle, which gets only better surrounded by the blossoming trees. And a visit to Arashiyama Bamboo Grove will be a nice place to take your honeymoon photos.

Wish you were already on holidays? Catch one of the many undamaged beaches that’s become an unlikely haven for tourists in 2022.

Patara beach

In 2005, this site was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. It is located after the ancient city and archaeological work is still being undertaken. The entrance to the territory is paid but it’s worth using a museum card just in case. One half of the parking is equipped with a wooden deck that leads to the beach. You can rent chaise longues and umbrellas, but there are no beds. It’s not very comfortable to just lie on sand. There are many places where you can have a snack or drink, including the cafe. There is also a toilet, fresh water shower and changing cabins. In general, a great place to relax – kilometers of silk sand, clear sea, despite the sandy bottom, mountainous landscape. Rest is overshadowed by uncleaned cabins, toilets and sandy paths. The sand is very hot!

Kaputas Beach

There are many beautiful beaches in Turkey, but one of our favourites is the Kaputas Beach in the Turkish Maldives. It has a beautiful view, beautiful water that’s satisfying to swim in and a yellow-white sand that’s perfect for building sand castles. Furthermore, there are great amenities on offer to make it a well-rounded beach day out – so what are. This little beach is hidden in a gorge between the mountains. It takes 192 steps to get down there, but it won’t take long or use much energy. The entrance offers free access.

This little beach is very clean and well looked-after. You can buy food from the cafe or bring it from home, as well as use the clean toilets and shower facilities. In summer there are also sun loungers for rent! In May, during the lockdown period in Turkey, I was on holiday at a beach. On weekends, there were very few vacationers on the beach as it was pretty deserted.

Parking is straightforward, with the entrance to the beach right next to the stairs. During weekends, there are also public transport options you can consider. When it gets very busy in summertime, upgrading to a rental car or excursion will be necessary. At the entrance there are gendarmes who check the codes and passports, the entrance is only in masks on the beach itself, the mask can be removed. This beach has one drawback – it is its remoteness from resort towns, although this may be a plus.

Faliraki Beach

The largest beach on the island with good infrastructure: wooden walkways, changing cabins, lifeguard towers, free showers and toilets, many beach activities. There are also waste bins on site to make litter easier for everyone. There are a number of bars, taverns, restaurants and shops in the city which you can easily reach on foot. The first line contains mainly hotels that have a good reputation for cleanliness. Despite the fact that every bar and hotel offers paid umbrellas and sun loungers, there is still a lot of space for those who like to lie on the sand. Sandy and gentle entry to the water. But the sea itself is empty: no rocks, no fish – there’s more or less something interesting in the extreme right or left side of the beach, where the rocks begin, but there are very few places to enter the water. In general, a good beach for a leisurely family vacation on sun loungers.

Kata Noy

The beach itself is pleasant: the sand is white, the water’s blue.

In the middle of the beach there are sun loungers, but there are not many of them, so they immediately create the feeling that the beach is small and busy, although the beach is large enough.

Immediately behind the beach line on a small concrete elevation (there are stairs for climbing) – a road. There is too much noise, but it is there.

The sand and water are wonderful!

Varadero beach

Stunning beach, white sand, clear water in the ocean, few people on the beach. Varadero is beautiful. The hotel was located on the coast, just a couple of minutes to the ocean. Despite the fact that the beach is common to all hotels, there are not many people.

Bavaro beach

The beach is endlessly vast, with soft sand. The waves are not small, but immense. The ocean, after all. Everywhere transparency changes the appearance of the water. The water is clearer towards the shore and becomes more cloudy as you move away into deeper water. The best spot for deep-sea exploring is the reef, where clear blue water meets aquamarine depths. It is better at the bottom; more calm. This is for those who know how to dive. There are hotels all along the coastline and they’re pretty cheap. However, not all of them care about cleaning up after their guests and that’s where the problems will arise. Algae are sometimes not harvested at all, but they grow abundantly in the Sargasso Sea-Atlantic Ocean. What about sharks? There are sharks, I saw myself on diving. We have a sunken ship opposite the hotel, about 0.5 km from the coast, and we dived there. I wouldn’t even pay attention, the instructor pointed out to me. Two individuals 50 centimeters long, presumably reef hunted at the surface for a smaller fish. There are sharks in the ocean and sometimes, they end up near the coastline. I recommend not to swim or head too far from the coast at night. It’s not worth risking your life for a quick dip! Sharks like it here and we’re just passing through I mean, you never know who you might run into.

Jurmala beach

The beach in Jurmala is, of course, excellent. Everything you need to relax is there, including changing cabins and benches on which you can sit comfortably. But what I didn’t like at all was that in mid-June, in a decent heat, the water temperature was 12-13 degrees. Like in Spain in December-January, when I swim in the sea in a thick winter wetsuit. If you just walk along a shallow coastal zone, then after a few minutes from the cold your legs begin to pull together. You will not be able to plunge quickly either, since going to the place where the depth will be at least waist-deep is, oh, how not close. However, everyone already knows this. The cold sea water is compensated by the healing air saturated with the aroma of pine forests, as well as all other local beauties. Please note that if you decide to come to the coast of Jurmala from Riga or other places by car, then upon entry you will have to pay 2 euros, payment is made in machines, for this you need to move off the main road into a special “pocket”. We recommend preparing for a long wait and prepare your supplies accordingly. There has been extensive work on the Riga-Jurmala highway with the closure of one half of the road completely. We hope this will shorten our commute time. If you go from Riga by train, then you need to get off at Majori station, from it to the sea is the closest.

Previously, the Canaries were considered a luxury, inaccessible to the poor: this reputation at the end of the last century they “gave” the guys in crimson jackets, beautifully vacationing here from their serious business. But the situation has changed, and now these islands occupy an honorable place in the list of destinations for a budget holiday.

There is something of the Moon with its craters, something of Mars with its red sandy landscapes, something of lost Atlantis with its smoking volcano. So dispel any doubts and start planning a trip to the beauty in the most budget-friendly and interesting way possible.

Transportation

It sounds unusual, but the cheapest transport on the island is a rental car. Personal experience suggests that the best choice for this case would be CICAR, a local company present only in the Canary Islands and mainland Spain. The conditions are much more fabulous than the island of Bali: no credit cards, international license, or bail, and the minimum age of the driver is only 21.

It is better to book a car in advance and online, there is a site in Russian. The more days of rental, the cheaper it comes out. The simplest Fiat cost us about 100 euros per week, not counting gasoline – about 1 euro per liter. Everything is included in the lease: insurance, additional extras like a child seat, second driver, etc.

Renting a car in Tenerife per day costs about the same as public transport both ways, so the choice here seems obvious. When we arrived to return the car, no one even came out to check it. We just returned the keys and got paid for the difference in gas.

Traffic on the island is easy, the roads are perfect, there are markings and signs everywhere, and there is virtually no problem with parking. Pay attention to the color of the markings: if it’s yellow – parking is prohibited, if the color is blue – parking is paid, and if the color is white – free. There are a lot of such places: here are the coordinates of a huge parking lot in Puerto de la Cruz.

If for some reason you can’t rent a car, take the bus. The best way to get a Bonobus card, a kind of Moscow “Troika” – trips are cheaper. The current schedule and prices can be found on this website, but only in the Spanish version, as the English-language version is almost empty.

Food

They say you should leave the table with a feeling of light hunger. That’s advice I could give out left and right, but not here! Let’s call off the hunger strike and immediately look for large supermarkets like SuperDino, Lidl or Mercadona.

The prices in these stores are half as much as in the kiosks by the sea or at the hotels: don’t be lazy and find them in your neighborhood. Do not tell your grandmother, but your minimum shopping basket will include fresh seafood, a bottle of wine for a couple of euros (and not one), fresh fruits and vegetables, a pack of jamon from 2 euros and a slice of cheese from 1 euro, bread, olives and a can of tuna. All this will be cheaper than going out to eat in a café or restaurant.

If the road curve does lead you to the pubs, be prepared to pay from 10-20 euros per person for lunch at a budget restaurant. A business lunch on weekdays from 12:00 to 16:00 will cost about 12 euros, and a glass of sangria will cost 3 euros while a bottle of wine for one euro is bored on the store shelf. To save a little money, choose the dish of the day, it always has the lowest price. The island also has McDonald’s and KFC with an average check of 7 euros.

Entertainment

It’s easy to start with the pay-per-view attractions because there are only two must-see places: Loro Park Zoo and Siam Park Waterpark. If you can’t wait to spend the money and visit both places, buy a twin ticket – it’s a little cheaper. You can also splurge on water activities such as kitesurfing (first lesson about 100 euros) or paragliding. For a thrill go to the area El Medano.

If you’ve been to similar places before, then feel free to forget about these two points and get in your car. There are plenty of options for where to go.

Everything in Tanzania is great, except the prices of tourist attractions. We have studied all the most popular (and therefore very expensive) locations in the north of the country and told you what to pay for and how much to pay.

Serengeti Safari Tour

The father of Africa’s national parks and the gold mine of travel companies around the world. The great migration of animals, the Big Five, the classic African landscapes from National Geographic stories and the cartoon “The Lion King” make the Serengeti the main reason for tourist development in Tanzania. The local government has long realized that foreigners are willing to pay any money just to see Simba, Rafiki and their friends, so they happily jacked up the prices to visit the park and do not stop there.

The first thing to understand is that there are no independent trips to the Serengeti. It’s not even about transportation – it’s not a problem to rent a four-wheel-drive jeep that can drive through the park. But to get into the territory without a local guide and/or driver will not let you, so there are only two options: rent a guide with a car, or take a tour. The latter option will come out more expensive, but you won’t have to look for a campsite for overnight stay, buy food, and in general they will think of everything for you.

We will not write about the tours, it’s so clear. Here on this site you can look at their range (not complete), read reviews and navigate the prices. As for renting a guide with a car, it’s easier to look for them on the spot. The exact cost will not tell anyone: too many factors affect the pricing of such trips. This season, the number of willing visitors, the ability to bargain, and the mood of the guide. But still there is a certain minimum that is worth counting on.

The problem with the Serengeti is that no driver will take tourists there for less than three days, because the road from Arusha to the park itself takes about seven hours. Therefore, multiply the amount received by three times and start to be sad. In addition, the route to the Serengeti lies through Ngorongoro, another national park where you have to pay the same $70 to enter the territory, and twice: on the way there and on the way back. Such is the African math.

Good News

Of course, there are ways to save money everywhere, and in this case they are obvious. A full-fledged safari jeep accommodates up to 6 people, and the cost of its rental is almost always fixed, as well as the rental of a guide. So the main challenge for those who want to save money is to look for company. For this there are many thematic groups on Facebook, couchsurfing, tripadvisor and other English-language forums and resources. And the company for a joint safari is great to look for in hostels, bars and clubs, but this option is not for introverts.

By the way, to look for a guide with a car you can also on the forums, both our and English, but keep in mind that Tanzanians – the people are optional and forgetful, so do it in advance is rather risky.

Alternative: Tarangire National Park

If you reasonably think $900 for a three-day safari is too much, but want to experience the delights of Tanzania’s national parks, look no further than Tarangire. No cartoon has been copied from it, so it’s a little less popular with tourists, which is exactly what we need. Since the park is several times smaller than the Serengeti and is only a two-hour drive from Arusha, it’s also a much cheaper trip.

If you divide the rent even by four people, the amount is quite fair, especially compared to the rates of the Serengeti. And do not think of Tarangire as a third-rate nature reserve. It also has all the representatives of the “big five” and African fauna in general, and due to the huge number of baobabs the park is particularly fond of elephants, so the chance to see at least one serious animal in Tarangire is even more real than in its famous neighbor. And the beauty of the scenery is not inferior to the Serengeti, because the savannah is the savannah in Africa.

In addition to Tarangire, there are several national parks in the north of the country, for which one day is enough to explore. The prices, conditions and variety of fauna in them are about the same, so just choose the one you like, find a company, and try to rent accommodation and eat outside the parks – it’s much cheaper.

Climbing Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro has long occupied a firm place in the heart of every tour guide in Kenya and Tanzania. Just the view of this photogenic mountain automatically makes any hostel almost a five-star hotel, and a roadside café – a Michelin restaurant, to say nothing of the cost of climbing it.

To conquer Kilimanjaro and reach its summit, it takes a minimum of five (and usually seven) days and $800 – this amount does not include anything other than state-imposed taxes and fees.

And you also need to pay for transportation, equipment, food, guide, porter services (separate from tips) and have a decent amount in reserve for contingencies. For this money you can conquer several other mountains, but the popularity of Kilimanjaro does not suffer. As in a situation with safari, you cannot do without a tour, and in this case we do not recommend saving money: mountains are a serious business, where the professionalism of guides and the quality of equipment depend on too much.

It is better to choose a tour company by reviews. The ascent to the 6km summit is not a safari trip, not many people dare to do it, and all those who were able, be sure to report about their feat on the Internet, attaching a report contacts guides and companies. But keep in mind that the price for a week climbing with a decent and trustworthy company cannot be cheaper than $2,000 as you will present only $1,000 to the Tanzanian Government as a tax and levy for the park.
